A man who fired a gun at a house in Cork city leaving a young woman in intensive care has been jailed for 11 years.

Gavin Sheehan of Laurel Ridge, Shanakiel was sentenced to 14 years with 3 years suspended for possession of a firearm with intent at Hollywood Estate on May 15th 2016.

The court heard how Ciara Sheehan, who is no relation, was struck in the neck by a bullet and was rushed to hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

Judge Sean O'Donnabháin said it was an extraordinary case and Mr Sheehan had shown no remorse for his actions.
