A man in his 50s is in a serious condition after being shot in Cabra in North Dublin.

The man received a number of gunshot wounds to his body on Killala Road at approximately half past seven this evening.

Emergency services attended the scene and the man was brought to the Mater Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

Gardai are investigating the incident and any witnesses are asked to come forward.
