A man in his 60s has died following a crash on the M1 in Co Louth.

It happened at around 2 o'clock this afternoon on a northbound stretch of the motorway, between junctions 14 and 15.

Gardai say two cars and a truck were involved and the male driver and sole occupant of one of the cars died at the scene.

The driver and two passengers in the other car were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with non life threatening injuries.

Part of the motorway remains closed for an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
