A 34 year old man has been jailed for 13 years for raping a woman with Down Syndrome in Dublin.
The judge said the rape was frightening and disgusting and had dehumanised the victim.
In June 2013, the woman with Down syndrome and her mum went out for a jog on their usual route.
They became separated from each other and who is originally from Haripur in Pakistan lured the women back to his Dublin flat where he raped her.
Judge Tony Hunt said the victim, who is in her 20s and can'Â’t be named, was subjected to a frightening ordeal that lasted between 30 to 45 minutes.
He said you would have to remain silent for that amount of time to realise how long it is.
In a victim impact statement the court heard the victim doesn'Â’t go out on her own anymore because sheÂ’s too scared.
And Judge Hunt said many years of building up her independence were all blown away for a couple of minutes of instant gratification.
He sentenced Ellahi to 13 years behind bars adding he took it that the Minister for Justice would take every step to remove him from the country once he completes his sentence.
The victim watched the proceedings via video link and the Judge said what happened to her had touched many people and he wished her and her family well.
