A man has died after being struck by a car in Co Kerry this morning.

The incident happened on the Tralee to Ardfert road at Ballyroe shortly after 8.30am.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Tralee General Hospital.

A post-mortem will be carried out later. 

The driver of the car, a 20 year-old man, wasn't physically injured.

The road was closed while Gardai carried out an examination of the scene and has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
