Gardai in Cavan are questioning a man over a serious stabbing yesterday.
A woman in her 40s is in a stable condition in hospital.

Gardai were called to a house in Kilnaleck yesterday afternoon, where they discovered a woman in her 40s with serious stab wounds.
The woman was rushed to Cavan General Hospital where she's still being treated, and is said to be in a serious, but stable condition.
A man in his late 50s was arrested in connection with the attack - he's being held at Cavan Garda Station, under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
It's understood the man is a well-known Republican and served a sentence for a serious crime committed in the mid 1990s.
The scene at Kilnaleck has been preserved for a full technical examination.
