A man in his 40's is seriously ill tonight after being found on the ground injured in Gloucester Place in Dublin's north inner city this afternoon.

The man was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin with sustained head injuries.

He is believed to be from eastern Europe, however his identity hasn't yet been established.

The scene is preserved for a forensic examination and Gardai at Mountjoy are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with information, to get in touch.
