A man has been shot dead in Dublin.

The victim in his 40's was wounded a number of times by a lone gunman on Gateway Avenue in Ballymun at a quarter to nine this morning.

His attacker then fled the scene.

The victim was rushed to the Mater hospital, but has since been pronounced dead.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is being asked to contact Gardai at Ballymun.
