Up to 60 milimetres of rain has fallen in parts of the country with many roads impassable and two weather warnings remaining in place.
There are road closures in parts of Dublin, Meath, Louth and Kildare due to flooding, and there's widespread surface water on many routes - so motorists should take extra care.
Dublin Fire Brigade says houses have been flooded in Nutgrove Avenue in Dublin and the road is blocked near the Grange Road junction.
Gerry Murphy from Met Eireann says the heaviest rainfalls were recorded in Dublin, Cork and Roscommon.
