Large crowds are expected in Derry today for the funeral of Martin McGuinness.

Dignitaries from across the island and around the world are due to attend his funeral this afternoon.

The boy from the Bogside became a terrorist feared in London - and then a peacemaker known around the world.

But today the life Martin McGuinness will be celebrated in a church just ten minutes' walk from his family home in Derry.

It will be the second of two funerals in St Columba's Church today - the city braced in sadness as it also bids farewell to soccer captain Ryan McBride.

Among those attending McGuinness's funeral will be the Taoiseach Enda Kenny and President Michael D Higgins - but the DUP leader Arlene Foster was last night said to be making a last-minute decision about whether to attend.

If she does, she will be among politicians like former US president Bill Clinton, and the former British prime minister Tony Blair.

Afterwards McGuinness will be brought to the city cemetery in Derry - laid to rest in the only city he ever considered home.
