A meeting of the Council of State to consider the International Protection Bill at Áras an Uachtaráin has concluded.
The President, Michael D. Higgins, convened the meeting to consider whether the government’s plans to overhaul the asylum process are a breach of the Constitution.
In a statement, the President has thanked the members of the Council of State and will take the decision - on whether the Bill should be referred to the Supreme Court - in the next 24 hours.
It’s the second time that the council has been convened under President Michael D Higgins.
