A man's appeared in court in Melbourne charged with 18 counts of attempted murder after a car ploughed into pedestrians.

12 people are still in hospital following the incident outside a busy transport hub on Thursday.

32-year-old Saeed Noori is also accused of one count of endangering life.

Police say he has a history of drug abuse and mental health issues.
