Germany's chancellor Angela Merkel doesn't think remaining EU states will want to punish the UK for its decision to leave.

She was speaking after David Cameron's Autumn exit plans came underfire from EU foreign ministers who want him to start negotiations urgently.

Meanwhile it's claimed countries like France and Hungary could follow the UK out of the EU.

Former NATO Security General Japp Hoop Scheffer has ruled out the Netherlands breaking away from the union:
The British shadow health secretary Heidi Alexander has quit her post from Labour's shadow Cabinet, posting a resignation letter on her Twitter account.

It comes after shadow foreign secretary Hilary Benn was sacked for reportedly plotting to force out Jeremy Corbyn as leader.

There are now concerns up to half of the shadow Cabinet could step down.

Meanwhile, as many as five Conservative MPs may be putting themselves forward to stop Boris Johnson becoming the next Prime Minister.

Johnson led the Leave campaign in Britain's EU referendum.

The current PM David Cameron is stepping down, after voters opted to leave the EU.
