ESB crews are still working to restore power to 800 homes in East Galway this morning after a mini Tornado hit the county last night.

The Stormy conditions caused trees to be uprooted - and power lines to fall.

It comes as Met Eireann issues a rainfall alert for counties Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Louth, Offaly, Westmeath and Meath.

A rainfall warning is also in place in the southeast of the country and parts of Munster.

Met Eireann has given the weather warning for the East Coast an Orange status level.

Forecasters say this category is for weather conditions which have the capacity to impact significantly on people in the affected areas. The issue of an Orange level weather warning implies that all recipients in the affected areas should prepare themselves in an appropriate way for the anticipated conditions.

Meanwhile it's also emerged there was a mini tornado in the East Galway area last night.  A spokesman for Met Eireann says a funnel cloud caused some damage in the area.
