Dutch investigators say Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 broke up in mid air after being hit by 'high energy objects from outside the aircraft'.
The initial report says the black box flight data recorder showed no evidence of technical malfunctions or warnings.
298 people died in the crash in July.
The Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai has welcomed the findings:
Geraldine Coughlin, Lecturer in International Law at the Hague University, explains in this Q&A with Helen Vaughan that this is a safety report that doesn't investigate if the plane was shot down by a missile.
