Plans for a new political group could cause upset for the larger parties.

Roscommon-South Leitrim Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice intends starting the new party and will run 25 candidates in the next election.

The move is likely to cause concern for the government, who are mandated to call an election in April 2016.

Deputy Fitzmaurice is a turf-cutter, and won his seat in the October by-election.
