Super Junior Minister Finian McGrath will fight the government's planned increase in the price of cigarettes.

It's understood Michael Noonan will add 50 cent to the price of a 20 pack of cigarettes.

Independent Alliance Minister McGrath told The Times he had concerns about the plans, saying it'll increase illicit trade.

The Independent Alliance and Fine Gael are set to resume budget negotiations later today.
