The Minister for Health has played down an increase in the number of people on hospital trolleys in emergency wards.

James Reilly says new figures being reported don't give a full picture of the state of the nation's hospitals.

He says new data will be released tomorrow showing a dramatic fall on the number of people waiting over 12 months for appointments.

And he says the figures being quoted today also include people on trolleys in wards elsewhere in hospitals.
