Ratings agency Moody's has downgraded the UK's credit rating from "stable" to "negative" due to uncertainty, after Britain voted to leave the EU.
It said that the unpredictability of UK decision-making prompted the move, along with the likelihood of lower economic growth.
Stock markets across Europe and America have tumbled in the wake of the poll.
