The Justice Minister is to ask for extra resources for the Gardai to crack down on organised crime gangs.

Frances Fitzgerald will outline to Cabinet this morning that more Gardai are needed to deal with criminal feuds in the north inner city.

She's expected to outline that substantial extra resources are needed so Gardai can work overtime to deal with organised crime.

The Irish Times reports that she will say there's a need for 'saturation policing', which will include more Gardai tackling crime in Dublin's north inner city, after a spate of murders.

The Minister wants to create a 'mini' Criminal Assests Bureau to target assets of a lower value - possibly as low as 1 thousand euro.

The move comes as a woman in her 40s is to appear in court this morning in connection with the latest gangland murder.

She's being charged with with-holding information that could have prevented a serious offence, after 35-year-old Gareth Hutch was shot dead outside his home in Dublin's north inner city last Tuesday.
