80% of people with an intellectual disability can't find their way around their community alone.

This effects their independence and increases the likelihood of loneliness.

That's one of the findings of a ten year study on ageing with an intellectual disability.

The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing also found that up to 80% of people with Down syndrome develop dementia by 65 years of age.

There are now calls for more to be done to support engagement for people with intellectual disabilities in the community, with TILDA partners looking at how technology may help in the future.
