Social media sites need to be regulated to stop the spread of fake news, according to the Press Council.

They argue that Facebook and Twitter are acting as news sites by hosting articles and videos published by media outlets and the public.

The head of the council claims this means they have a responsibility to be acurate.

Sean Donlon says the spread of fake news is offensive and inappropriate, and needs to be stopped.
