Two people have been killed in a road crash near Fermoy in Co Cork.

A 58 year old woman and her 22 year old daughter died in the after their car crashed into another car before plunging into a river the outskirts of Kilworth village.

The crash happened shortly after 11:30 n the R667, Fermoy to Ballyduff road in North Cork.

They were pronounced dead at the scene.

A young woman who was driving the second vehicle was not seriously injured

The road remains closed and it is likely to stay closed for a number of hours to allow a forensic examination to take place.
