The mother of a child stabbed to death in Dublin on Monday night remains seriously ill in hospital.

The woman in her forties underwent emergency surgery following the incident at an apartment block at Poddle Park in Kimmage.

Her three year old son died at the scene. Garda investigations are continuing.
