The Dáil is to debate a motion of no confidence in Enda Kenny next week.
TDs will vote on the motion on Wednesday - the same day as a major demonstration on water charges.
The news comes as Fine Gael comes to terms with another fall in its support in the opinion polls - which now put it at its lowest popularity since Enda Kenny became its leader 12 years ago.
