Survivors of the Berkeley balcony collapse and bereaved family members are lobbying the California State Assembly for a change in the law.

Six students died and seven suffered catastrophic injuries when the balcony they were on collapsed last year.

It later emerged the builder of the Library Gardens apartment complex had paid over 26 million dollars in settlements relating to other cases of building defects.
