People who deliberately ram Garda vehicles should be jailed for at least 10 years.

That's according to new legislation introduced to the Dáil this evening.

The TD behind the bill - Fine Gael's Brendan Griffin - admits that ramming a Garda car is already against the law.

But he says extra punishments are needed - because the current law doesn't do enough to ward people away from doing it:
