The President Michael D Higgins has unveiled a new national memorial to those who died in the Famine.

The Celtic Cross in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin, marks the largest single burial ground for victims of the Great Hunger.

The President unveiled the monument as part of the annual national famine commemoration.

He said we must pray that we don't "repeat the mistakes of the past, as we deal with the challenges of feeding the hungry in our own times".
