A new plan to help prevent crime and anti-social behaviour in Dublin's north inner city is due to be revealed this morning.

The Local Community Safety Plan (LCSP) will see more drug outreach programmes, audits of poorly kept streets and measures to tackle drug dealing hot spots.

It will bring together a number of state agencies, including businesses, councillors, Dublin City Council, and State services such as An Garda Síochána, Tusla and the HSE.

Incidents of minor assaults, robbery, drug use and possession, and possession of a firearm are all substantially higher in Dublin's north inner city than the national average.

The report contains 50 actions, with local groups hoping it can make a difference.

Justice Minister, Helen McEntee, says the plan has been put together over the past year by local groups and representatives.

"It's the culmination of a huge amount of work where the community have come together, working with local Gardaí, the local authority, the HSE, Tusla, and education providers, Local representatives and businesses.

"All of these people have come together to identify what it is that they need and what it is that they want for their community."

Dublin City Council is due to carry out an 'audit' of certain streets, aimed at improving lighting and cleanliness, with local groups will be tasked with tackling illegal dumping.

There are also plans to review and renew commercial properties, with O'Connell Street, Moore Street, Talbot Street and Capel Street getting priority.

An increased Garda presence will also be targeted at hot spot areas for anti-social behaviour and drug-taking.

New programmes will be offered to young, repeat offenders and drug outreach programmes will also be extended.
