Michael Healy Rae says he will not be deterred from continuing his work, following an assault in Dublin yesterday.
The TD says a serious conversation on the toxicity directed towards politicians is needed, and abuse, intimidation and violence can never be accepted or normalised.
In a post on social media, he has thanked the emergency services, hospital staff, and his supporters.

Garda inquiries are continuing into an assault on Independent TD Michael Healy Rae.
It happened while as he was in his car stopped at lights on Cork Street in Dublin yesterday afternoon.
He was treated in hospital and required stitches, he was released last night.
There has been condemnation of the attack from across the political spectrum.
