Two people have died in a house fire in County Cork.
Fire crews were alerted to the blaze near Crossbarry at 7:30 this morning.
The bodies of two people, believed to be an elderly man and woman, were discovered at the scene.
Cork County Senior Assistant Fire Officer Lia O’Shea, says the fire was well established when crews arrived:
"Sadly one fatality was initially removed and some time later a second fatality was also discovered at the scene."
Local councillor Alan Coleman says the elderly couple were part of a large family who are well known in the local community:
"Such a tragedy, something you never really expect to hit your own community."
"For both of them to perish in a fire like that, its dreadful news."
"Its a family that's very active in the community, its a huge extended family in the parish so this is affecting every part of the area here."
