A new code of advertising standards will see tighter restrictions surrounding the marketing of e-cigarettes and gambling.

Gambling firms will be obliged to include a 'responsibility' message alongside services to customers, promoting a responsible approach to the past time, and details of further information available on the subject.

A study from UCD published in July 2015 entitled 'Playing Social Roulette: The Impact of Gambling on Individuals and Society in Ireland' found that up to 40,000 people in Ireland have some form of gambling problem.

The study also found online gambling plays a significant role in the sector- with 14% of those with a gambling addiction admitting to gambling online at home.

Guy Parker, President of the European Advertising Standards Alliance, said today's code revision "reflects the changes in society....it is also keeping pace to changes in European legislation."
