New York City Expected To Ban Foie Gras

New York City is expected to ban foie gras later today.

Most council members are backing a bill that will stop the sale of the goose liver pate on animal rights grounds.

They're concerned producing the French delicacy involves force-feeding a bird by sticking a tube down its throat.

While the legislation is widely supported by animal-rights groups, it has come under fire from local restaurateurs and vendors who sell the goose-and-duck-liver delicacy.

Violators would be guilty of a misdemeanor and face fines of up to $1,000 and a year in jail for each offense.
