No Patients At Children's Hospital For Another 15 Months At Least

Patients will not be admitted to the new National Children's Hospital until August 2025 - at the earliest.

The Dáil's Public Accounts Committee has received updates from the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board this morning, confirming that the new facility won't be completed until next February.

TDs have been questioning the board and the Department of Health in relation to a number of issues, such as breaches of contract by the developer, BAM.

However, hospital board CEO David Gunning says they can't even guarantee February 2025 will be the completion date:

"Until I see that program, and all the contents of it, and all the detail that supports the data, that supports the February number, as I said earlier, I can't convey certainty in that date to the committee.

"I just can't."

Last February the Government gave the green light for a budget of €2.24bn for the hospital, but a statement from the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board warns ongoing delays are driving up costs.

TDs are seeking answers following further delays to the completion of the project.

The National Paediatric Hospital Development Board will advise the PAC that the hospital will not meet its scheduled completion date at the end of October.
