'No training' for Central Bank directors in 15 years

A man who served on the board of the Central Bank for 15 years says he never received ANY training for the role.

David Begg of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions says he was never offered any training for his role - but never asked for it either.

Mr Begg is among former directors of the Central Bank giving evidence at the Banking Inquiry this morning.

He told Labour senator Susan O'Keeffe that training simply wasn't offered to the Central Bank's directors:

Mr Begg also defended the role of social partnership - the process which led to a series of national pay deals that led to significant wage increases in both the private and public sectors.

He said the increased wages of workers had not in itself led to the State's financial collapse - which was entirely the responsibility of the banks and the State's need to save them from collapse.
