US President Barack Obama says he won't order military action against the Islamist group Isis, unless Iraqi leaders agree to work together.
Earlier the UN said it was 'extremely alarmed' at the situation in Iraq - with reports of mass executions and growing sectarian violence across the country.
Government troops have decamped to the outskirts of the capital Baghdad to protect it from Islamist forces.
Meanwhile it's now thought at least half a million people are trying to flee the uprising.
President Obama said he would not be sending troops back to Iraq - and any action against Isis would be targetted and precise.
