Parents will spend an average of almost 400 euro getting each of their children back to school this September.

The main cost burdens are uniforms, books, lunches and transport.

A survey from the Irish League of Credit Unions has revealed that almost a third of parents find themselves in debt covering these costs.

More than two thirds say their ability to pay a household bill is impacted while more than one in ten say they've turned to money lenders.
