The Minister for Finance says the ECB should "man up" and agree to send someone to the Banking Inquiry.

Michael Noonan says it's a "cop out" for the bank to say it won't deal with an inquiry run by national TDs.

The minister also hinted that Ireland might not bother asking the EU to follow up on a deal on our bank debts - suggesting that it may be in Ireland's interest to ignore that "game-changer" deal to instead pursue a private sale of our bank shares.

He also lashed out at critics who said the Budget should have continued with the original plans for €2 billion in austerity.

His comments came as the European Commission issued its latest update on Ireland's financial affairs - which said that while Ireland was one of the few Eurozone countries to be fully in line with EU rules, the Budget should have gone further.
