123456 and Liverpool are some of the most common passwords Irish people are still using.
New research from Cyber Skills and the website HaveIBeenPwned shows '123456' is the most guessable password in the world.
The study, released as part of Cyber Security Month, looked at over 613 million passwords from hacked accounts to examine the vulnerability of certain key phases used to access Facebook accounts and online banking.
The report from Cyber Skills found over 12,000 accounts used "fatherted" (Fr. Ted) as their password with a further 87 using the word "glenroe".
Roy Keane also features on the list, along with U2 Bono and Conor Mc Gregor.
Dr Hazel Murray, lecturer in cyber security at Munster Technological University, says hackers can use a person's nationality to get through to their personal information.
"If you look at an Irish set of passwords, like made by Irish people, you can tell immediately because like names of places, like counties, they're really predictable basically.
"And the problem is that like an attacker will know where you're from. So if someone's trying to guess your password, it's not hard for them to know you're from Ireland and guess something that's like Irish or a current favorite TV show".
Analysis of leaked passwords on the website HaveIBeenPwned showed that 22,000 passwords contained the words "liverpoolfc" while "manunited" was a part of 33,000 passwords.
Dr Murray, says using multiple words in a password is a good way of keeping your online information out of the hands of hackers.
"Usually a few different words together is really good. Making a sentence, but not using like a common phrase or quote, but something that's memorable for you. Make it as long as possible with a few different words in it".
