56 per cent of New Zealanders have voted not to change their national flag.

They've chosen to keep the current flag, which features the Union Jack, rather than change it to a black and blue one with a silver fern.

The turnout in the referendum was 67 per cent, and the campaign cost more than 25 million dollars.

The process for changing the flag has come in for criticism, over the limited design options presented for alternative flags.
