Gardaí have arrested a man following a fatal shooting in Co. Kildare.
The attack in the Greenhills area of Athy - occurred just after 5 o'clock this evening.
A 22 year old man was rushed to Naas General Hospital with gunshot wounds following the incident - however he was later pronounced dead.
As part of their investigation's into the incident Gardaí have arrested a man in connection with the shooting tonight.
The man in his 40's is detained at Kildare Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The state pathologist has been notified and anyone with information's asked to contact Gardaí.
