Gardai are appealing for witnesses after a man was killed in a crash on the M1 motorway in County Louth.

Three cars collided on the northbound carriageway just after Junction 15 Castlebellingham at half past ten last night.

A man in his 40s, who is believed to be from Co. Louth, died at the scene.

Two women, who were the drivers of the other cars, and a 10 year old girl who was a passenger, are being treated at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda.

The carriageway remains closed while a forensic investigation is carried out.
