Around 1,000 day-old chicks have been found abandoned in a field in England.

Members of the public found them near Peterborough, in Cambridgeshire yesterday.

While most of the birds were in good condition, animal welfare inspectors from the RSPCA say some had died, while others were put down due to their injuries.

It is believed the birds came from a commercial chick producer and may have been abandoned by a third party.
