Christmas is to come early for one lucky person after they won €6.5m in the lotto draw last night.

Online players are being asked to check their numbers.

There have been 13 Lotto jackpot winners so far this year.

However, it's only the sixth time someone playing online has won the prize since it was introduced in 2009.

Robert Magee, from the National Lottery, says "because it's an online win it's a lot more straight forward, there's not that worry of losing your ticket.

"If you just check your numbers and if it is you who matched all six number in last nights lotto draw just get in touch and we'll arrange for you to come and collect your prize in the National Lottery winners room."

The winning numbers were: 9, 15, 17, 24, 41, 43 and bonus number was 37.
