A new survey shows only 3pc of GPs say they will definitely take part in the government's new 'free GP' care scheme for children under six.

The scheme is due to come into effect later this year.

Around 720 GPs were surveyed as part of the research carried out by the National Association of General Practitioners.

The findings show 41pc of those surveyed say they 'will definitely or probably not' engage with the under-6's scheme in its current form.

The doctors say they have not been consulted  on how the scheme will operate and have serious concerns about the level of funding set aside for it.
