The OPW is offering couples intending getting married in a civil ceremony the option of tieing the knot at some of the countries heritage sites.
The move means that some of Irelands most beautiful and atmospheric attractions like Kilkenny Castle and Castletown House in Co Kildare could be made available for a couples big day.
Approved sites will only be the venue for the official civil ceremony itself and not for receptions afterward.
Minister of State Brian Hayes says it's not clear yet what they will charge but he hopes it will become a revenue stream for the OPW
