Police say at least 91 people have been killed in northern India after a passenger train came off the tracks.

The derailment occurred near Purwa, a village close to the industrial city of Kanpur - about 500km southeast of Delhi. 

More than 100 people have also been injured.

Sky News reporter Neville Lazarus - who's in New Dehli - says the death toll may well rise:
