PAC chairman blasts 'interference' in inquiry

The chairman of NAMA has denied that the agency could have got a better return on the sale of its Northern Ireland loans.

Frank Daly's claims came after the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee lashed out at the Department of Finance - accusing it of interfering with its investigations.

The Department has published hundreds of pages of new documents relating to NAMA's Northern loans - but did so just hours before the PAC met to discuss the matter.

The timing of the release led John McGuinness to accuse the Department of "nothing less than interfering" with the PAC's work.

He also lashed out at a civil servant who attended the PAC in private session this morning to warn that it might be overstepping its mandate.

Northern Ireland's Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, has now written to the PAC asking if he can attend to give evidence about the matters raised in the new documents.

Later the PAC also heard from the chairman of the Stormont finance committee - who said that neither Mr Daly, nor independent TD Mick Wallace who has raised many of these complaints, are willing to attend his own hearings.
