Farmers will not be limited by EU milk quotas today, for the first time in 31 years.

The system aimed to prevent over production across Europe, and will allow Ireland to better compete to supply growing markets in Asia and Africa.

More than 600 million euro has been invested to boost production from today onwards.

Parties were held across the country last night to mark the historic event.
