Patient at Áras Attracta "forced to withdraw" abuse allegations against staff member

A patient at the Aras Attracta care home in Mayo was allegedly forced to withdraw a complaint they made against a staff member.

Fianna Fail TD Colm Keaveney says he's been contacted by a family who claim they raised concerns about the physical assault of one of their relatives in the home as far back as 2005.

The matter was allegedly not reported to the health authorities or the gardaí and no disciplinary measures were taken against the staff.

In a statement from the HSE, they say there is no record of any such complaint.

Aras Attracta hit the headlines this week when an RTE programme showed undercover footage of residents there being kicked, slapped and force-fed.

Deputy Keaveney says that the family were unhappy that management conducted an internal investigation over the complaint:
